As I’m sure many of you can relate, I spent all week looking forward to the weekend. I’ve had a rough go of it recently [as you may recall from my post a few days ago] and I had big plans for some R&R. And then what ends up happening? I GET SICK.
[insert The Bachelor chick “ugh” GIF again] Like, seriously?
All I wanted to do was rest and recharge… on my own terms. I thought I would get a good night’s sleep on Friday, wake up and do some yoga and meditate, shower, and maybe even put on a face mask!
But noooooooooooooooooo! My body was like “You’re going to wake up feeling even worse than you have. This is what you get for burning the candle at both ends. You wouldn’t give yourself a break, so I’m going to force you out of commission!”
And I get that. I really do. Body’s gotta do what it’s gotta do to take care of itself. It just REALLY bugs me that I KNEW I needed a break already. I KNEW that I was WAY past due for a time out. So, what gives, Universe?!
Luckily, I didn’t have to rack my brain for too long before receiving my response. I did a card pull on my Charging Sky Crystals Instagram account Friday night and the answer to my question was clear as day…
For those of you who don’t read that fast (me neither), here are the images of the Daily Crystal Inspiration deck card and explanation from the guidebook.
There ya have it. (You can’t make this shit up.)
In my mind, I was going to push myself as hard as possible all week and then give myself permission to rest (for the most part) on the weekend. The mistake I made was thinking my mind, body, and spirit could last that long without repercussions. I thought that I was in control of how I was feeling—”if you can just endure this discomfort for a little while longer, you’ll eventually catch a break.”
Unfortunately, it doesn’t always work out that way. Whether we like it or not, we can’t control every aspect of every situation. That said, we do have the ability to change our attitude at any given time, or shift our perspective. It’s that “a-ha” moment… that freedom that comes with accepting and surrendering. THEN you can begin healing.
Since Collin and I BOTH woke up feeling crappy on Saturday morning (his body was on strike, too), we had to figure out HOW ON EARTH we were going to survive this day. So, over coffee and a screaming toddler, we decided to institute “No Battle Saturday.” On this day, we would indulge the littles’ every whim (that didn’t hurt anyone).
More cookies? Okay. Another show? Sure. More apple juice? Yup (but with a 1:4 AJ:water ratio; we’re not savages.).
Digging for bugs in the backyard in the heat? I guess so! Kicking and screaming about wanting a bath because she’s stinky from being outside in the heat digging for bugs even though it’s now time to get in bed? Why not!
So it goes…
Overall, No Battle Saturday was a success. It was vaguely stress-free. Aside from the sinus pressure, of course. I even got to lie down on the couch for a few minutes!
In fact, it was so great that when we woke up feeling crappier on Sunday morning, we decided to bring NBS back for an encore.
You see, by removing the need to control things (and people) around the house, we held that space for ourselves to heal, or at least that was the goal. Our home may be a lot messier than usual, but there’s somehow a sense of peace.
When you surrender to the way things are, you find air again. Breathing becomes easier. The path to how you want things to change becomes clearer. And then it’s a domino effect of positive change. You’ll set things in motion for better way of living, both for yourself and everyone else in your immediate orbit.
Of course, letting go of control is no simple task. It’s a process. But that’s the point of this life, right? Always learning, evolving, and striving to be better?
